By default, frames cannot be edited in version documents.
However, the rules for editing frames can be changed on a document-wide basis, or a frame-by-frame basis.
NOTE:
A user can only change the geometry of a frame if content from that frame (i.e. image, text segment) is editable by that user.
Rules for all frames: click 'File > Default Frame Rules'
Inside a master document, click 'File > Default Frame Rules' to open the 'Frame Rules - Document' window.
From here, you can set the rules about frame editing for all frames in the document (which contain editable content).
Choose Rules
From the drop-down menu, choose the rules for how frames should be editable in jobs from this document.
For example, if you choose "Allow Resize", then users will be able to resize all frames containing editable content.
However, if you choose "Allow Resize: Right", then users will be able to resize all frames containing editable content, but only to the right. In other words, the top, bottom and left edges of frames will stay in their original positions.
NOTE:
You can choose any combination of rules from this menu.
NOTE:
If you choose 'Allow All' from the rules drop-down menu, it will add 5 separate rules - resize, move, scale, rotate, and skew (as shown in the next step).
Click 'Apply'
The selected rules will be listed in the 'Frame Rules - Document' window.
Rules can be deleted individually via the red crosses to the right.
If you are happy with your selection, click the 'Apply' button.
'Inherit settings'
(1) Inherit settings
By default, all frames will inherit their editing rules from the document frame rules. While this box is checked, you cannot change the individual rules for this frame.
(2) Choose/Add Rules
If you wish to set individual rules for this frame, you can uncheck the 'Inherit settings' box. You can then choose the rules as shown in the previous steps.
Clicking 'Apply' will apply these editing-rule overrides to the selected frame.
NOTE:
If 'Inherit settings' is unchecked and no rules are chosen, then the frame will not be editable in a job.
Setting Frame Rules per Workflow Step
Frame rules can be chosen individually for each Workflow Step.
Click on the triangle next to the workflow step name to open the menu. The 'Frame Rules' sub-menu shows 3 options:
- Use Settings: This is the default settings. Users at this step are beholden to the rules set up in the master document 'Frame Rules' windows.
- Allow All (that contain texts or images): Users at this step can edit any frame that contains editable content. This command overrides all rules set up in the master document 'Frame Rules' windows.
- Allow None: Users at this step cannot edit any frames. This command overrides all rules set up in the master document 'Frame Rules' windows.
Defining individual frame rules for a workflow step can be useful if, for example, a designer/copyfitter is working at a specific step in the workflow, but no other workflow steps should be allowed to edit frames.
