If a linked file (e.g. an image) is updated after being linked to an Adobe® InDesign® document, that link will be marked as Outdated. This is also the case with Adobe InDesign Server, as used by one2edit™.
Outdated links need to be updated in the document, so that the most up-to-date version of the linked file is used (i.e. to ensure that the correct high-resolution links are used when creating a PDF).
NOTE: Depending on what you changed about the linked file, you may need to re-do its fitting in the document.
Outdated and Missing Links
Check under Project Details > Links to see if any of your Links are outdated or missing.
- Outdated links are marked with a warning triangle.
- An outdated link is still present, but it has been modified since being linked with this document. After updating an outdated link, you should check to see that it still looks correct within the document.
- Missing links are marked with a broken link icon.
- A missing link is a linked file that cannot be found. Please refer to the article about missing links to resolve this.
- If you have reason to think that one or more links may be outdated or missing, but none are marked as such, click the Validate button to run a check for this document.
NOTE: This article does not cover the steps for relinking missing links.
Document Info Panel > Links
In the source document, expand the Links section of the Document Info panel.
All of this document's links are listed here, with any appropriate warning symbols next to them.
Click Warning Triangle to updated Outdated Links
- Click the warning triangle next to an outdated link to update it.
- The warning icon disappears, and the link has been updated.
- Now you can save these changes.
NOTE: You should check to see that the updated link still looks correct in the document, given that it was altered since being linked to the document.
Option: Auto-Update Outdated Images
There is an option in the Client Workspace Settings called: Auto-update outdated images.
This option is unchecked by default. Checking this box will automatically update any outdated links in a document as soon as that document is opened for editing in one2edit™.
NOTE: If you do enable this option, please be aware that linked images, etc. may change in your documents without warning.
